Ministerial. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. AV. Forbes, is due in Wellington tomorrow morning from Canterbury, The Hon. J. Bitchener, Minister of Public Works, arrived from Lyttelton yesterday morning in the inter-island steamer express, Rangatira. lie' returned earlier than expected in order to finalise some important departmental matters before leaving to-morrow evening for Tlmaru, where, on Thursday morning, he will attend the South Canterbury welcome to his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester.
The Hou. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Justice and Defence, who spent the week-end at his home'in Feilding, will return to Wellington to-day. Other Ministers expected to return to their Ministerial offices to-day are the Hon. 11. Masters, Minister of Industries and Commerce; the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands; the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Education; the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture.
The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, is at present staying in Dunedin.
Father Knight, of St. Bede’s, Christchurch, arrived at Wellington on Saturday, from the south. ? Mr. C. 11. Manning, of Oamaru, accompanied by Mrs. Manning, was in Wellington on Saturday. Mr. A. T. Donnelly, Crown prosecutor at Christchurch, arrived at Wellington on Saturday morning by the steamer express. Mr. W. J. McKell, ex-Minister of Justice in New South Wales, who is now touring the South Island, is expected iu Wellington at the end of this week.
Dr. A. G. Couston, of the County Mental Hospital at Chester, will arrive at Wellington by the Rotorua from London on January 22, tn take up an appointment, witli tlie Mental Hospitals Board. Sir Thomas Wilford, who arrived in Wanganui early last week from England on a visit to his mother, Mrs. E. C. Wilford, of Wicksteed. Street, left for Wellington on Saturday. He intends returning to 'Wanganui with Lady Wilford later in the month, before returning to London. Dr. J. B. Condliffe, member of tlm Economic Intelligence Service attached to the League of Nations, and author of the annual, “World Economic Survey,” who with Mrs. Condliffe and their daughter have been' visiting New Zealand, leaves for Australia to-day. Before returning to Geneva Dr. Condlifte Intends to visit the United States.
Mr. E, C. Smith, of Gore, was in Web lington during tlie week-end, on route to Japan, and afterward Manila, where he will take part in the Rotary Conference to be held there at the end of February. Other members of the party will be Mr. H. Guthrie, Mr. H. Halliday, Mr. J. Shand, and Mr. Peter Barr.
Mr. R. I’. Levinson, of Messrs. Izivinson and Sons, Ltd., Perth, West Aus tralia, who has been on a world tour in the interests of his firm, is now visiting the Franz Josef Glacier in com pany with his brother, Mr. Malcolm -Levinson. After, their return to We! lington they will leave by the Monterey for tlieir home at Perth. Dr. W. Bremner lligbct, who loft Dunedin last Wednesday as medical officer of tho Bear of Oakland, intends to proceed to London to study and to gain experience, and in the eventuality of (lie Bear of Oakland continuing eastward to King Edward VII Land, he will'accompany the ship as far as New York, via Valparaiso, and will ('lien transliip for London.
