LOWER HUTT WEDDING
Scotson —Clarke
The wedding was solemnised at the Lower Hutt Methodist Church ou December 29 of Mavis Nellie, daughter of Airs, and the late Air. AV. Clarke, and Jack, son of Air. and the late Airs. J. Scotson, both of Lower Hutt. The Rev. 11. A. Sharpe officiated. Air. C. Clarke, brother of the bride, was best man, and Air. Allan Pickles was groomsman. The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Air. J. Perrett, wore a lace frock with V neck and puff sleeves of tace to the elbows and satin to the wrists. Her bodice was close fitting, and she had a full skirt with train. The lace cap with veil was caught from the back with orange blossom and a small spray was at each side. She carried a bouquet of pink ami cream roses and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids were Misses Joyce Gardner, a cousin of the bride, end June Smith. The former was dressed in salmon pink with closely-iit-ing bodice, full skirt, elbow puff sleeves and mittens to match. Her bouquet was of apricot gladioli and maidenhair fern. Aliss Smith’s frock of duck-egg blue was cut on similar lines, and she carried a bouquet of yfellow and cream loses. Both wore headbands with organdie flowers at the side. At the reception, held at the scout hall, which was tastefully decorated with streamers and blue hydrangeas, the bride’s mother wore a frock of brown marocain and swagger coat and bat to match. Her posy was of orange miniature dahlias.
The bride’s going-away dress was of pink marocain with white trimmings, nnd she wore a white hat and shoes.
YACHTING CONTEST
Heretaunga Club Races
Keen interest was taken in the yachting races conducted by the Heretaunga Boating Club at Petone on Saturday. A medium south-east wind was blowing. In the second Thorndon Cup contest for the Idle Along class Valada, with a four-minutes handicap, won from the scratch yacht, Rongomai, who secured fastest time. The course of six miles was from the clubhouse buoy, to the buoy off Cuba Street, Petone, back to the club, through the gap of Somes Island, to the club again, around the Cuba Street buoy, and finally back to the clubhouse.
Only two started in the Heretaunga Cup race for Tauranga class yachts, Tern winning from Nancy. The course was from the clubhouse,, round Mr. Fishburn’s buoy, twice round, finishing at the clubhouse.
Yesterday the second Gjersen Cup race for all-comers was sailed in a medium north-west wind. The course was from the clubhouse buoy, to the Cuba Street buoy, to Lowry Bay, twice round. Elite secured first place and fastest time. Rongomai was disqualified for fouling another boat; Nukumai pulled out after fouling a buoy; and Patua, when in a good position, got into some difficulty and did not finish.
