SPLENDID GOLF
British Amateurs Beat Christchurch Team
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, January 4,
A large gallery at the Shirley links to-day saw splendid golf by the visiting British amateurs, Hon. Michael Scott, J. McLean, T. A. Bourn and L. G. Garnett, who met a team of Christchurch club players in four-ball matches. ■ The local players were in good form and. the visitors had to return .better than scratch scores t< win by a narrow margin in each case. The weather was overcast but mild, and, apart from a light drizzle toward the end of the morning round, playing conditions were excellent. The course, in spite of the recent drought, was in good order and earned high praise from the visitors, although most of them had difficulty in gauging the strength of the greens. In the morning round Scott and McLean beat C. J. Ward and C. A. Seymour. 3 and 2; Bourn and Garnett beat A. R. Blank and E. J. Pumphrey, 3 and 2. In the afternoon round Scott and McLean beat Blank and Pumphrey, 2 and 1; Bourn and Garnett beat Ward and Seymour, 3 and 2.
