Gaugings carried out by the city engineer’s department of the various streams coining under the control of the Wellington City and Suburban 1 Water Supply Board and of the City Council itself have revealed that during the recent period of dry weather the flows generally jlid not reach as low a level as they did in 1928 and 1930. and. in the case of Wainni. in 1917. when the stream had dropped to approximately one-half of this year’s dry weather flow. This can be accounted for by the fact that the dry period | this summer' occurred unusually early and before the ground-water storage was depleted. The present position at Die headworks is satisfactory, the shortage having been relieved by recent rain.
