‘DUTY TO SAVE WORLD'
General Araki on Destiny of Japan
NOT HOPEFUL OF PEACE
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.
Toldo, January 2.
General Araki, in a New Year's empire-wide broadcast, said: “We are now on the threshold of the crisis of 1935 which I foretold. I do not see peace anywhere in a world which envies our trade success. t
“However, there is no reason for fear or pessimism while there is a God in Heaven who will help a country which does the right. Japan can still benefit from the West’s materialism, but the East is supreme spiritually, and Japan alone knows the true civilisation. We are no longer pupils; we must be teachers, and Japan’s duty is to save the world.”
