The Federal Cabinet sat till to-night on the meat restriction proposal. Al- j though no decision was announced, it ! is understood that Cabinet will send a ‘ communication to the British Govern- j ment agreeing to the restriction for three months, provided that the British ■ Government is willing to raise the larg- < er issue of the future of meat imports •' and Empire trade generally at another ■ such conference as that at Ottawa, ! when Australia will press for the aboli- ’ tion of the quota system in favour of ; tariff preferences for Empire goods 1 over foreign goods.
