REVISED RATES
Allocations For Relief Workers NEW SCHEDULE NEXT WEEK Unemployment relief workers, as registered throughout the Dominion, will resume operations next week under revised rates in respect of Scheme No. 5 and sustenance. As announced on December 11 by the then actlng-Minister of Employment, Hon J. A. Young, the revised schedule provides for slightly higher allocations than those obtaining during last year. It. is estimated that the increased cost to the fund will be approximately £175,000 per annum. During the coming year there will be only four varying scales of allocations. Broadly speaking, the highest scale will apply to the four main centres and ad- ‘ joining boroughs; the second to the secondary cities and larger towns: the third to the smaller towns; and the fourth to the country areas. The gap between the city scale and the country scale will be reduced, and as far as children are concerned. the rates will be brought up to the maximum provided for in the Unemployment Act, 1930. i There has been no alteration of the unemployment position as it was just before Christmas, all the men on relief works having been provided for when payments were made for the two weeks’ holiday period.
