“Strange Wives”
“QTRANGE WIVES” is based on Edith Wharton’s novel “Bread Upon the Waters.” Miss' Wharton knows tlie follies and foibles of married folks, and in “Strange Wives’ makes them so real that it’s riotous. The hero is a man who knew more about relativity than Einstein—he married a whole family. In fact, all his wife’s relations come to live with the bridal pair. The husband decides that the best way to get rid of the relatives is to get them married off. In this he seems to be more fortunate. One sister-in-law marries a millionaire, a brother-in-law marries il famous movie star, another one marries an heiress. Then there is more trouble for there are divorces, witli the relatives still coming and going. An important cast lias been chosen by June Clayworth and Ralph Forties. Mae West Popular WEST, one of Paramount's stars is being hailed in Hollywood as the greatest individual attraction of any feminine star in motion pictures as the result of a national theatre poll conducted by tlie “Hollywood Reporter” outstanding trade pubiicatioy. Joan Crawford followed Mae in the ranking, while Norma Shearer was third. Kay Francis fourth and Janet Gaynor fifth. Tlie other five of the ten members are in order—Jean Hariow, Claudette Colbert. Gordon Harker and Ralph Lynn have been teamed by Gaumont-British and have started work on "Dirty Work” under the direction of Tom Walls. Others in the cast are Peter Gawtliorue. Robertson Haro and Basil Sydney.
