Good weather was experienced by fishermen in the Taupo area during the holiday period. Although few large bags have been reported, conditions generally are regarded as better than at the same time last year. The fishing in the district at the southern end of the lake is at present mostly trolling, and some very fair results have been obtained. There are, as yet, comparatively few fly fishermen on the Waikato River and the streams running into the lake, but several have been obtaining satisfactory catches. Some good fishing has also been secured at the mouth of the Waitaianui Stream and at the rips at the mouths of other streams.
