The Australian tennis championships were continued tb-day, including the singles elimination round. Results include:
Men’s singles—G. P. Hughes (Britain) defeated XV. Robertson (United States), 6-1, 6-0, 6-3; F. J. Perry (Britain) defeated E. J. Mahoney, 6-3. 6-4, 6-2. Men’s doubles —Boussus and Brugnon (France) defeated Vroland and Ryan, 6-1, 6-3, 8-6; Malcolm and Kirby (South Africa) defeated J. Grinstead and R. O. Cummings, 6-1, 13-11, 1-6, 9-7; E. Maier (Spain) and Hopman defeated J. Harper and D. K. Fitchett, 8-6, §-l, 3-6, 9-7; Ewin and Stefan! (Italy) defeated Clemenger and 6-3, 1-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4; R. Menzel (Czechoslovakia) and Moon, defeated Knight and Robertson, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4; Crawford and McGrath defeated Tonkin and Purcell, 8-6, 6-2, 6-2. Robertson, nominated by Los Angeles Lawn Tennis Association, was disappointing. Hughes had only to keep the ball in play and wait for Robertson’s errors. The French Davis Cup players made an Impressive first appearance. The home pair put up a good fight, but the Frenchmen’s returns of service were too good. The South Africans, Kirby and Malcolm, were thoroughly extended by the Queensland pair.
