Match Against Stop Out

An enjoyable and sporting game between the H.M.A.S. Australia eleven and an eleven from the Stop Out Club played yesterday at Kelburn Park ended in a win for the Stop Out side by 9 runs on the first innings. H.M.A.S. Australia, in the first innings made 93 (Commander Moyes 31, Chinn 13, Bowerman 13, Lintott 13, Madden 12) ; and in the second innings lost nine wickets for 60 runs (McLean IS, Bowerman 14). Stop Out in the first innings made 102 (Liddicoat 36, retired, McPhee 13 not out, J. Moore 13, Bale 10). Bowling for H.M.A.S. Australia, Commander Moyes took six wickets for 16. McLean one for 21, and McLeod one for 11. Bowling for Stop Out, E. Moore took two for 4, Tucker two for S and three for 8, Diallard two for 5. McShee one for 5, Liddicoat one for 7, Sandholm two for 15 and one for 8. J. Moore one for 8, Saunders one for 12, and Hitcheu one for 11. WOMEN’S CRICKET Probables Beat Possibles WIN -ON FIRST INNINGS Clad in white tunics, Wellington’s senior women cricketers delighted about 306 spectators with bright play at the Basin Reserve yesterday afternoon. The match, Possibles v. Probables, was arranged in order to give the selectors a guide to form in preparation for the selection of a representative side to meet the Englisn women’s team, now touring Australia, next month. The match, which was played with 10 a-side, resulted in a win tor Probables on the first innings. Possibles, who.batted first, were unable to withstand a well-regulated attack, and were dismissed for 19 runs. I. Pickering took four wickets for 8 runs, A. Ell two for 3, and D. Hatcher two for 2. Probables in their first and only innings played cricket which drew frequent applause from the spectators. D. Hatcher made 28 runs, and the top scorer, 11. Buck, compiled a 39. In their second strike Possibles were able to show better form on a dry wicket, but again the bowling proved too strong and the side was dismissed for 88 runs. P. Brogan, scored the highest figures of the day, hitting all round the wicket for 40. A. Ell, a sister of J. Ell, the Wellington representative cricketer, took five wickets at a cost of 19 runs.
