RACE FOR GREAT NORTHERN DERBY

Gay Blonde and Kelly Defeat Synagogue

DUKE’S MOUNT FINISHES FOURTH AT MARTON

West Tor Defeats Inflation in Wairarapa Cup

Racing .took place yesterday at Ellerslie, Tauherenikau, Marton, Hawke’s Bay, Stratford, Greymouth, Wyndham and Waikouaiti. The most important event of the day was the Great Northern Guineas at Ellerslie, which saw the downfall of the warm favourite, Synagogue. The presence of the Duke of Gloucester at the Marton meeting, and the fact that he was to ride one of the runners in the event for amateur riders, was responsible for an unusually large attendance at that fixture.

The final days of the Ellerslie, Tauherenikau, Marton, Hawke’s Bay, Stratford and Greymouth meetings will take place to-day.
