Strike at Broken Hill

NEW YEAR’S EVE STOPPAGE

(Received January 1, 7 p.m.),

Sydney, January 1. Broken Hill was plunged into darkness on New - Year’s Eve, when enginemen at the municipal electricity station walked out on strike.

■ The enginemen had demanded that members of their union should be placed in charge of the motors at the new city baths, but the city council rejected the demand. All lights in the city are out, including those at public and private hospitals, picture theatres, and In streets. ’
