FACING A CRISIS
American Relief System

The New Year finds the Federal relief administration facing a ericis, according to an Associated Press survey. During 1934 some three billion dollars were spent'' to succour about 19,000,000 persons. The 1985 policy will contain the complete’ elimination of the cash dole and will see the creation of emergency relief work to absorb as many unemployed as possible, with about 4,000,000 ’’unemployables” being struck from the Federal rolls and turned over to States and municipalities for care.
