MEXICO CITY CLASH
Worshippers Taunted ARMED BAND OPENS FIRE (Received January 1, 5.5 p.m.) New York, December 30. The Mexico City correspondent of the “New York Times” says that five Roman Catholic worshippers were killed in a clash with a heavily armed band of Red Shirts, a Fascist-like group of Government supporters organised to 1- press the anti-Church policy. About 45 Red Shifts pai-aded to a church located in a suburb where several thousand Catholics were holdings noon mass, taunted worshippers, denounced the church and cried ‘-‘Leath' to the priests.” .The enraged Catholics attacked the Red Shirts, who immediately started firing, injuring about 30 in addition to those immediately killed. One Red Shirt was captured and beaten to death by the Catholics. Despite the fact that they were armed, the Red .Shirts were forced to retreat to the municipal building, where they were besieged until police cleared the neighbourhood and took them into custody.
