Commander A. H. Maxwell-Hyslop, of H.M.S. Laburnum, has returned tq Wellington from Auckland. Professor J. Shelley, professor of education K at Canterbury University College, is visiting Auckland.
Mr. F. W, Mothes, managing director in Zealand of the Goldberg Advertising Agency Ltd., left for Sydney by the Mariposa on Monday. The Rev, G. H. McNeur, who is on furlough from the mission field in China, arrived recently at Dunedin. He will return to China shortly. Mr. W. Goudriaau, director of the United Netherlands Company, of Rotterdam. who arrived at Auckland last week from Sydney, is at present touring the North island.
The Rev. Kenneth R. Small, formerly assistant, city inissioner. Wellington. has been appointed by the Bishop of Waikato as priest-in-charge of St. Bride’s Church, Otarobanga.
Mr. J. O. Coop, of Kaltuna, an expresident of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, has returned ,to Canterbury after four months in Australia.
Mr. Alastair A. MeGibbon, of Christchurch, a third year medical student at Edinburgh University, will captain university tennis team next season. Recently he took part in a number of Scottish tournaments. Mr. Clement. May, late of Wellington, writing from Honolulu, says that he gave recitals at the leading colleges in that city and was accorded a gratifying reception. On December 15 h« left by the Lurline for California, and hoped to spend the Christmas and New Year in Hollywood. Professor J. C. Sperrin-Johnson, formerly professor of biology, Auckland University College, has leased Blackroclt Castle from the Cork'Corporation for his private residence. This was once a lighthouse. Professor SperrinJohnson has occupied the ehair of botany at the Cork University College since his return from New Zealand.
Mr. L. D. Austin, formerly of Wellington, writes from London that he is now writing there for several provincial ■ newspapers, and has hopes of becoming attached to the staff of a London paper. In the meantime lie has been busy looking up old friends and renewing his acquaintance with places he knew so well as a young man.
