WELFARE WORK

Residential NurseryThrough the kindness of the Commercial Travellers’, the various branches of the Women's National Reserve, their friends and supporters, and the children at the Residential Nursery, Owen Street, had a very happy time on Christmas Day.

The centre of attraction was a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, the work of Matron McKibbin and Sister McWhirter, from Which each of the little inmates received a present. The gay caps, given by the Spinsters’ Club, added to the cheerful appearance of the rooms, which were decorated with sweet peas grown in the nursery garden. The friends who subscribed toward the party have also made it possible to take the children for trips to the beaches during the hot weather, and these outings have given very great pleasure. The committee and matron desire to thank the following for donations for Christmas: —Commercial Travellers’, Rotary Club, estate of late Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. Marchbanks, Wellington Girls’ College, Miss Ramioele, Mrs. Tripp, Miss Freeman, and also the following branches of the reserve for Christmas donations:—Seatoun, Wadestown, Melrose, Berhampore, Hataitai, Kelburn, Khandallah, Island Bay, Lyall Bay, Roseneath-Oriental Bay, Feilding, Wellington South.
