In the professional boxing contest for the featherweight championship Clarrie Rayner (Blenheim), retained the title against Len Knuckey (Hastings), 8.8 J,. the latter being knocked out four seconds before the end of the eighth round. He was unable to come back for the ninth. The bout was not spectacular.
