JEWISH TOURNAMENT

Quadrangular Contest WELLINGTON’S SUCCESS

The New Zealand Jewish quadrangular tournament commenced on Wednesday and concluded yesterday. Cricket was played at Kelburn Park on December 26, 28 and 31. The debate was held on the evening of December 26, and also the official welcome to players and visitors at the Jewish Club rooms, Ghuznee Street. Tennis was contested at the Miramar courts on the Thursday, and in the evening chess, draughts, billiards and snooker were played in the club rooms. Table tennis was, played at the Wellington Table Tennis Association’s rooms, Lower Cuba Street, on Saturday evening. The picnic and athletic events were held at Trentham on December 30, also golf at Manor Park.

During the week the visitors were entertained with a ball, picnic and other social functions. The farewell and presentation of trophies took place in the club rooms yesterday. The managers from Auckland, Canterbury and Otago expressed their appreciation, and extended thanks and congratulations to the local centre for the excellent arrangements made and the efficient manner in which the whole tourney had been organised.

Cup Winners.—Points Cup, Wellington; cricket, Wellington; debate, Wellington; tennis, Wellington; billiards and snooker, Otago; chess and draughts, Auckland; table tennis, Wellington; golf, Wellington; athletics, Wellington; ladles’ tennis, Wellington.

■Cups won outright: Women’s tennis singles, Mrs. S. Pezaro (Auckland); women’s table tennis singles, Miss D. Katz (Wellington).
