4 ‘ Balmacewen Course Record Beaten by McLean MATCHES WITH OTAGO TEAM By Telegraph. —Press Association. Dunedin, December 29. Excellent displays of golf were witnessed in fourball matches between members of the visiting British team Scott, McLean, Bourn and Garnett—and the Otago players—J. R. Laidlaw, K. Ross, J- A. Scouler and C. B. Wight —on the Balmacewen links to-day. A sensational round of the day was that recorded by McLean in the morning when he beat the course record of 67 put up by B. V. Wright by going round in 65. His outward’ journey was done in 30, no fewer than five strokes better than par figures, mid he came home in 35, or another three strokes better than the course standard.
Bourn and Scott impressed by their unswerving steadiness and lighting qualities, while Garnett did some prodigious driviug. Throughout the day the Otago players acquitted themselves well, Ross and Wight defeating Scott and McLean in the afternoon, 1 up at the eighteenth, while Laidlaw and Scouler were all square with Bourn and Garnett in their afternoon match. Results are as follow:—
Morning rounds: Michael Scott and J. McLean beat J. R. Laidlaw and J. A. Scouler, 4 and 3; L. G. Garnett and T. A. Bourn beat K. Ross and C. B. Wight, 1 up. Afternoon rounds: K Ross and C. B. Wight,bent Michael Scott and T. McLean, 1 up; T. A. Bourn and L. G. Garne> and J. R. Laidlaw and J. A. Scouler, all square.
