METHODS DEPRECATED

Voce’s Bowling - Against Australia NOTTS RESOLUTION (Received December 30, 6.30 p.m.) Sydney, December 29. Tlie secretary of the Cricket Boar I of Control, Mr. Jeanes, stated, when the delegates adjourned last night, that the report of the manager, Mr. C. H. Bushby, of the team which toured England to the board included a letter from the M.C.C. which had reached him since his return to Australia. This letter, which was dated November 13, stated that the committee of the Nottingham County Cricket Club at its meeting on October 26 had carried the following resolution “That this committee deprecates the bowling of Voce on the Monday evening of the Nottinghamshire v. Australia match at Trent Bridge in the two overs referred to, and will take necessary steps to prevent its recurrence.” The letter added that the M.C.C. felt that Mr. Bushby would know now how much the M.C.C. committee regretted the incident, and expressed a hope that nothing of the kind would happen again.

A later message states that the Board of Control has completed consideration of the reports of the manager and the treasurer. The secretary, after the meeting, stated that the board had not passed any resolution regarding bodyline bowling and the incidents mentioned in the manager’s report and no inessage would be sent, to Marylebone. "As far as we are concerned the matter is over,” declared Mr. Jeanes. M.C.C. APPROVES * Statement by Sir F. S. Jackson (Received December 30, 6.30 p.m.) London, December 29. Sir F. S. Jackson, a member of the committee of'the M.C.C. and chairman of the 1934 Test selection committee, declares that Marylebone fully approves of Notts apologising for Voce’s bowling. ' / A. W. CARR’S COMMENT “Would Pack Up For Good” London, December 28. “If I were Voce I would pack up for good,” says A. W. Carr, commenting on the Notts apology. He added that Notts had not been open with the public, and had made an awful mess when it issued a bulletin regarding Voce’s shin trouble on August 13, which was obviously untrue. Voce was perfectly fit to bowl on the third day. "The committee are a weak-kneed lot,” lie said. “They have let Larwood, Voce and myself down.” Voce, interviewed, said lie was surprised when be read about the resolution, but he firmly said: “I have nothing to say.” Mr. Brown, the Notts secretary, issued a statement that tlie committee had received a letter from Mr. Findlay, secretary of Hie M.C.C., on August 24, enclosing a copy of a letter from Mr. Bushiiy complaining of Voce's bowling. The committee, after careful consideration, considered that Voce’s two overs on August 13 justified the complaint, whereupon a resolution was passed deprecating the overs and deciding on measures to prevent a recurrence. A copy of tlie resolution was forwarded to Mr. Findlay. As the correspondence was marked “Private and Confidential” it was ‘impossible to publish the fact until it was disclosed in Australia. Notts had not communicated with the Board of Control. ' WOMEN’S TEST MATCH England’s Strong Position (Received December 30. 6.30 pm.), Brisbane. December 30.
