“MODIFIED OPTIMISM”
British Trade Outlook For 1935 “ECONOMIST’S” VIEW Indications Moderately Encouraging By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received December 30, 6.30 pan.) London, December 30. Modified optimism characterises expectations for British trade in 1935. The “Economist” points out that although the road is not yet clear for a further rapid advance, the latest indications arc moderately encouraging. Britain, in company with most countries, suffered from a slowing down in the rate of recovers in the middle of 1934 and merely held the ground gained in the last six months, but international trade had recently tended to rise again. SPACE IN DEMAND British Industries Fair (British Official Wireless.) (Received December 30. 5.5 p.m.) Preparations are actively proceeding for next year’s British Industries Fair. Over 1,000,000 square feet of actual stands space has already been allotted for the exhibition, which is a 25 per cent, increase on last year’s record total. . The fair will be held in two sections and this year’ heavy industries section at Birmingham has been arranged to open on May 20, almost immediately after the celebrations connected with the King’s silver jubilee, in order to permit overseas buyers to combine their visit with the holidays in the United Kingdom.
Other sections of the fair will open in accordance with precedent on February 18 in London.
