MORNING RECEPTION
Orient Liner Oronsay The receptions and parties that have taken place on the liners which have visited Wellington during the last few weeks, together with the receptions on the visiting warships, will always be remembered as among the outstanding social functions of an unusually festive season. The reception on board the R.M.S. Oronsay on Saturday morning had been eagerly anticipated, as it was the first time for a long time that a ship of the Orient line had visited Wellington, and in spite of the fact that the city has suffered its holiday exodus, there were about 700 people present. ■ .. ~ The weather was still beautifully warm and sunny, and the fact of its being -held in the morning gave the party a touch of novelty, which added to its enjoyment. As the guests tiled up the gangway on to the saloon deck, they were received by Commodore C. G. Matheson, D. 5.0., R.D., R.N.R., Mr. Ronald Garrett, director of the Orient Steam Navigation Company, and Mrs. Garrett, and Mr. W. 11. Brice, who was representing the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand. Everyone then wandered up to the main deck, pausing on the way to admire some luxurious fitting dr peep into one of the delightful glass-doored lounges. The huge, pillared lounge forward on io upper deck was soon completely filled with the guests, who overflowed into the comfortable chairs which were arranged amidships and in the smoking'rooms. Attentive stewards were everywhere, with trays laden with every kind of refreshment, and the ship’s ' orchestra played delightful music as an accompaniment to eager conversation. Many people took the opportunity of exploring the sports deck and the beautifully-equipped cabins and saloons.
