NO NEW ZEALAND TOUR

Australian Cricket Board of Control Decision UNSUCCESSFUL MOVE Bv Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received December 28, 11.45 p.m.) Sydney, December 28. The Cricket Board of Control met at Sydney to-day. Mr. T. Howard, representing the New Zealand Cricket Council, conferred with the board and re-opened the case for sending a representative Australian team to New Zealand. A board-member thereafter submitted a motion to rescind the motion carried at a former meeting rejecting a similar proposal, but it was defeated. Thus no New Zealand tour will eventuate this season. The board is now considering the report of the manager of the last English tour. TOUR STILL POSSIBLE Melbourne Cricket Club The Melbourne Cricket Club is anxious -and willing to send a team to New Zealand this season if the Australian Cricket Board of Control gives the necessary permission. Mr. G. Margitieh, a member of the Melbourne Cricket Club, who is on a visit to the Dominion, stated yesterday that his club . was keeu to send a team to New Zealand. The team, if it came over, he said, would be made up mainly of players from the club’s first eleven. He doubted, however, whether the Nagel brothers would be available for the tour if the board gave its consent. In the Melbourne club’s first eleven, he said, there were six Australian representatives—lV. 11. Ponsiord, K. Rigg, L. 8. Darling, 11. I. Ebeling. L. O. Fleetwood-Smith, and L. E. Nagel. The others were Thomas and V. G. Nagel (who has appeared in inter-State cricket), Betimes, Gardner (a Victorian second eleven player), anti himself. Most of the members would come to New Zealand with the team, where, he said, he would join up with them as wicket-keeper. Tolhurst was also likely to be a member, and there was Campbell, a wicket-keeper. The visitor fully expected that, if the Melbourne club team came, Mr. 11. Trumble, secretary of the M.C.C.. would be the manager, and it was possible that another official of the club would make the trip. The Board of Control was to meet yesterday. and it is to be hoped that the governing body in Australia will consent to the Melbourne Cricket Club sending 'a team over. The Melbourne Cricket Club has sent (earns to tour the Dominion three times in the past—in the 18991900 season. 1905-06 sesnon, and the 1926-27 season. Hugh Trumble was a member of the 1899-1900 team, and came over as manager of rtf 1926-27 combination.
