The arctic blast which swept Canada and the United States during the weekend before Christmas struck with renewed fury to-day with a steadily mounting list of fatalities. The blizzard crippled transport •around Montreal, where the thermometer touched ten degrees below zero. Eastern Canada and the Atlantic States generally were buried in snowdrifts. Ten persons were killed in Minnesota in traffic accidents, with the thermometer at 39 degrees, while Montana and Michigan counted ten dead, including two frozen to death in a stalled motor-car. Highway traffic is at a standstill in rural Ontario.
