LAUNCH CRUISE

Duke’s Harbour Outing EVENING AT PICTURES Foot Injury Much Better By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, December 28. Although the Duke of Gloucester’s entry to Auckland was through its back door, to-day his Royal Highness had an opportunity of passing through the front door as a result of a launch cruise on portion of the Waitemata harbour. With the Royal party aboard, the Kongo anchored off Rangitoto for a picnic luncheon. The Duke and the members of his suite had lines out off Rangitoto beacon in quest of schnapper. The fish, on this occasion, were not biting. There was a fair sea running in the harbour, but the water was calm under the shelter of Auckland’s rocky sentinel. Accompanied by their Excellencies, the Duke to-night attended the talkies for the first time since his arrival, and saw the screening of “The Count of Monte Cristo” at a local theatre, which was crowded to capacity. The Duke leaves Auckland at 10.45 a.m. to-morrow for Hamilton, en route to the Chateau Tongariro, where he is due at 10.50 o’clock ou Saturday night. He will spend Sunday at the Chateau, and on Monday leaves by road for Mr. T. A. Duncan’s estate at Huntervilie, where he will have an opportunity of examining thoroughbred stock and of seeing extensive shearing operations in progress.

On Tuesday he attends the Marton races, and spends the night'at Mr. Duncan’s home. It is expected the Duke will be present also'at the second day’s races.

At 9 p.m. on Wednesday he rejoins the Royal train at Huntervilie for Ohakune, where he is due two hours and a half later. The original programme will then be resumed, the Royal train being scheduled to reach New Plymouth at 9.45 a.m. on Thursday. It was announced to-day that the Duke of Gloucester’s injured foot is very much better, and that his Royal Highness was in exceptionally good form.
