The combined "rally” organised by the Wellington Young Men’s Baptist Bible Class Union, and held in ,the Vivian Street Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon, proved very successful. There was a record attendance of 120 when tho rollcall of classes was taken. Tho speaker was tho Rev. J. K. Archer, .Mayor of Christchurch, his subject being "Consenting.” Mr. Archer said that he wanted a band of rebels; no: rebels against the King, or against the Government, or the Constitution of tho land, but rebels against sin and unrighteousness. Illusions were mode to several presentday evils. Mr. G. G. Scott, vice-presi-dent of tho union, was in tho chair, and Mr. 11. lE. Wilson assisted at the organ. At the tea which followed. Mr. S Carey spoke on the coming Easter camp, to be held at Parapainumu, and following this Mr. M. A. Tremewan presented a. report of the proceedings of the recent voluntary conference of young workers held at Waikanne . Two Maori boys, Ttangi Ratahi and Roberts, and Reginald King, of Stratford cleverly lured an Bft. 6in. shark to its doom at Middleton’s Bay a few days ago (states the Opunake "Times”). Observing the shark swimming about outside tho breakers, the boys got busy and, wading out, throw fish offal into the breakers, thus enticing it shorewards. Ho followed the offal as a bear follows honey, and when in about five feet of water Roberts waded in. armed with a "gaff,” to which was attached a rope held by Rangi and King. It required much courage and no little skill to gaff the monster, but Roberts made no mistake, hooking tho shark near the tail. Ho went up into the air like a swordfish, but the hook held, and he was soon hauled in to the beach. Thexploit goes to show that the Maori boys of to-day have lost none of the adeptness of their forefathers.
