DARING AIR FORCE RAIDS
HARRYING THE WAHABI TRIBESMEN London, February 27. The Bagdad correspondent of “The Times” states that the Air Force made a series of successful but hazardous attacks on the Wahabis. Creeping up in cloudy weather, they attacks two hundred tribesmen 55 miles south of Basra. The raiders suffered severely and fled southwards, scattering. The air attacks were continued over a wide area. In three days probably fifty were killed. Other marauding tribes gathered at Safa, probably for distribution of plunder. The Air Force raided them and blew up their fort. The exact casualties are unknown, but were certainly severe. These air operations are attended with great risk, owing to the extraordinary accuracy of the Akhwan marksmen. Flying-Officer Jackson, before his deaths punctured the petrol tank and ignited the escaping petrol by firing a Verev light at it, and thus ensured the destruction of the machine.
