LOWER HUTT AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS Mr. W. T. Strand presided over a meeting of tho Lower Hutt Borough Council last night. There were also present Councillors A. Mcßain, TV. G. Meldrum, E. Waldie, A. E. Carver, A. Campbell, J. Mitchell, A. Grierson, and A. .1. Hobbs. Tho certificate under seal of the council was given for ibo completion of roads cn tho Hutt golf course estate subdivision.
It was decided to grant the rcwlyformed Woburn Bowling and Croquet Club permission to lease a reserve in Massey Avenue. This land is to be devoted to tho formation of bowling and croquet greens, and tho annual rental is to be nominal.
It was pleasing to note that bowling was going further afield than tho restricted area to which it had been confined, said Councillor A. Mcßain. The place would still be a beauty spot, the surrounding land ensuring this.
Eyan and Co. were granted permission tn erect a wooden shed for the Storage of coal within the brick area. It "was decided to refer the Matarawa Domain to the Scenic Reserves Committee for a report. The Mayor stated that Mr. ft. Hannah had offered to give the council the necessary land along the whole of the frontage of liis property on Waterloo Hoad for the purpose of widening the thoroughfare. His only conditions wore that the fence should be sot back and the work proceeded with as soon as possible. Parking Prohibited.
On the recommendation of the Bylaws Committee it was decided to prohibit the parking of motor vehicles in the southern portion of Rnnciwick Road, as this street is under GG feet in width. Traffic inspectors arc to give the matter special attention on race days at the Hutt Park. Patking of ears is to be permitted on both sides of Park Road, if backed to the kerb on tho eastern side of the Waiwctu Bridge. It wits decided to have Donnelly s Corner (at tho junction of Railway Avenue and Riverbank Street) valued by the Valuation Department, as a whole, subdivided into lots, and offered for sale as one block. If not sold, it will bo offered in seclions. Clcndon Bros, were granted a right-of-way over the stop-bank at the end of Marsden Street, to give them legal access to their property between the stop-bank and the river. £9300 Loan Approved. The borough .solicitor reported that the Local Government Loans Board had approved the .£9OOO street widening loan, subject to a sinking fund of 3 per cent, being established. In lieu of the proposed 11 per cent., and the term of years fixed at 21) instead of 30. These terms had been accepted, and the loan was to be raised in instalments, if possible. The Works Committee reported” liavng disposed of tho Alabina Bay Quarry to Mr. 11. V. Tlorlor for the sum of =£275. and had arranged for Hie supply of 50.10 yards of rock for soling. Melling Bridge. The question of reviewing the whole position with regard to Mellng Bridge, which matter was referred to the Works Committee at the last meeftig of the council, received consideration, and in view of flic fact that the borough engineer reported that he saw no reason why tho bridge should not be regarded as perfectly safe for a period of three years, movided the loads did not exceed two tons, and ‘ho regulations were adhered to. Evans was granted approval of a subdivision of land at Hi corner of Knight’s Road and Cornwall Street.
