Champain, C.M.G., Secretary General ,of the British Red Cross Society, will arrive in Wellington bv the Maunganui to-mor-row 'He will visit this country representing the British Red Cross Society- and as a delegate of the League of Red Cross Societies, which comprises fiftv-four nations. General Champain was appointed secretary general of the British Red Cross Society in 1921, and has had a distinguished military career which dates from 1891. when he served with the Gurkha Rifles on the north-west frontier of India. He w ill be given a civic reception in the Concert Chamber of the I own Hall at noon, and at 12.45 will deliver an address to the members of the Rotarv Club. Nir J II Luxford, a well known and popular member of the Auckland Bar, has been appointed a stipendiary magistrate. It is not yet known in which centre he will be stationed. Mr, Luxford was born at Palmerston North in 1890. 'fhe voungest son of Air. W. LLuxford, now of Mount Albert, he has had a distinguished career as an athlete and his war record is extremely creditable, for he was specially mentioned, in dispatches from France by the late Earl Haig.—Press Assn. Mr P. R Sat-good returned by the Rotorua ’on Saturday from a visit to the Old Country.
