4. WELCOMED IN VANCOUVER Vancouver, February 21. Welcomed bv Rugby officials and players and the civic'authorities, the Warntahs reached the city on Thursday night and were given a royal reception. The manager (Mr. Gordon Shaw) said that the visitors were glad the long transcontinental journey was ended, although they enjoyed the trip through Canada, especially the novelty of the Rockies. "Our chief business now,” lie said, "is to give A’ancouver the best in Rugby entertainment.” A light work-out to-day at Brockton Point shewed tlie players in excellent shape, despite the fact that several were suffering from colds. NARROW VICTORY AT VANCOUVER (Rec. February 26, 11.5 p.m.) A’ancouver, February 25. The M’aratahs scored a hard-fought victory over tlie Vancouver representatives by 9 points to 6, before two hundred spectators. Mann and H- Ford scored tries in tire first spell, and Meagher one in tlie second, while for the home side Davidson and Pinkham scored in the second spell. None of the tries was converted. Ford was hurt in the first spell, and retired. The struggle was n gruelling one throughout the Australians showing to advantage with short snappy passing and pretty kicking.
