LAWS OF AUCTION BRIDGE
« AMENDMENTS ADOPTED London, February 21. The new laws of auction bridge, which come into operation on March 1 as revised, have been adopted by the Portland Club, after consultation with other London clubs. They will be published on .Monday. Both language and laws are considerably simplified and condensed, while the order has been entirely rearranged, and are therefore not comparable seriatim with tlie existing laws. The present hundred laws have been reduced to sixty-six, divided into four sections. Tlie first portion comprises laws 1 to 7 dealing with formation, table precedence, and selection of partners. The second section comprises laws 8 to 31, the rubber, dealing with shuffle, cut, deal, and auction play score. The third section covers laws 32 to 59, and consolidates all provisions dealing with infringements and penalties. The fourth section covers laws 60 to 60, miscellaneous, deals, and minor matters like time limits, new cards, introduction of details, conferences, discussions. and majority calling. The appendix states that the alteration of the new law XIA’ is available for the assistance of clubs and players desiring i to substitute majority for value calling. I Law XIA’ states that each successive I bid must be cither higher in value I than the last preceding or equal in value and of a greater number of tricks.
