VICE-REGAL. Their Excellencies, Sir Charles and Lady Alice Fergusson, who arrived at Westport on Wednesday on an unofficial visit, have had very little spare time, as they have been to social gatherings in the evenings, out to schools within a thirty-mile radius, and visited the hospital and old peoples’ home, states a Press Association message. Sir Charles Fergusson was also the guest of honour of ex-service men of Denniston on Tuesday evening. Yiesterday Their Excellencies visited various institutions in Westport, including St. Mary’s College. Tn the afternoon the ViceRegal party were the guests of the citizens at a garden party. To-day Their Excellencies leave for Nelson. The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) left last night for Christchurch. After attending the Grey district jubilee celebrations Mr. Coates will return to Christchurch, arriving back in Wellington in about a fortnight’s time
The Minister of Lands (Hon A. D. McLeod) returned to Wellington from the North yesterday. The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. J. Hawken) left last night for Auckland. The Postmaster-General (Hon. W Nosworthy) will represent the Government at the Waikato Central Agricultural Association’s Show at Cambridge on March 1.
Mr. A. G. Henderson, of the “Lyttelton Times,” was elected chairman of the Press Association for the current year at the annual meeting this week. Yesterday, before Mr. Justice MacGregor, Air. JI. Janies was admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court, on the motion of Mr. W. Perry. The Presbytery of Wellington met on Thursday’ night in the Island Bay Presbvterian Church to ordain and induct the Rev. G. Ireland to the pastoral charge of the congregation. There was a good gathering of members and adherents of ’the church, and the Presbytery was well represented The Rev. G. K. Stowell presided, and ordained and inducted the new minister. The Rev. F. H. Wilkinson, M.A., preached the sermon The Rev. J. R. Blanchard, 8.A., addressed the minister, and the Rev. G. D. Falconer the congregation. Lieutenant-Colonel Count Ostorog, of Chelsea, London, left Wellington last night for the Auckland and Rotorua Districts. He has just completed a tour of the South Island. Mr. W. Fergusson, secretary-treasurer to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in Sydney, will leave Wellington for the North this morning. Judge M. Fleming, from Australia, who is visiting New Zealand, left for the Hermitage and (he Southern Lakes District last night.
