CHANGE IN THE WEATHER “There was a rapid improvement of the weather over most parts of the Dominion during Wednesday afternoon and evening,” .. stated . the Director of the Meteorological Office yesterday, "the anti-cyclone centred over the South Island on Wednesday has moved eastward, and a shallow depression is now advancing from the Tasman Sea. This morning rain was reported from a number of scattered places, chiefly from the East Coast aijd in Westland, but in most cases the falls were only light. The new disturbance was beginning to affect Westland, Canterbury, and Otago, where skies had again clouded over, Rain was falling at Greymouth and at Arthur’s . Pass, and will probably ex-. tend over the greater part of the South Island. Scattered showers were expected also in the North Island. Winds have backed from southerly to between easterly and northerly since Wednesday morning. “Northerly winds are expected to freshen from Cook Strait southwards, but a southerly change will gradually advance from the south and west during the next twenty-four hours.”
