Chemistry is playing a part in some detective work which has been undertaken by the Auckland Harbour Hoard in an endeavour to ascertain which vessel was responsible for disenarging fuel oil into the harbour at the beginning of this month (report? an exchange). The chairman (Mr Mackenzie) said tlial the oil had drifted from Queen’s Wharf to Prince’s Wharf. Samples had been taken, .and it was the belief of the analyst' tn whom they had been submitted that his investigations into the constituents of the fuel would yield testimony which would assist in identifying the offending vessel.
