CYCLING TEAMS RACE

OAKLEY AND MORRIS WIN At tho Basin Reserve last night 1500 people saw T. Oakley (Masterton) and 11. J. Morris (Petone) win tho cycling teams’ race conducted by the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre with a total of 63 points. M. Gane and H. Scarfe ('Wellington) were second with 56 points, and Day and Pierce, of Christchurch (35 points), third. The event, which lasted for two hours, was run in the same style as a six-days’ race and is known in Australia as a 100-kilometre event. Sprints were held at various portions of the race, points being given for these, and the team scoring the highest number carrying off the event. The teams consisted of two riders, one of whom remained on the track and was relieved at various times by his team mate. These sprints were held at 10-minute intervals, 6 points being awarded for a first, 3 for a second, 2 for a third, and 1 for a fourth. Points were doubled in a sprint at the end of the first hour, the points for the first positions being 18, 12, 8, 6. Detailed points were as follow: — T. Oakley and 11. J. During the evening a 100 yards ladies’ handicap was held and resulted as follows :— Miss Malcolm (7vds.) 1 Miss Gollop (13yds.) 2 Miss Blathewick (3yds.) 3 Won by a foot. Time, 11 4-ssec.
