Some idea of the calmness of the sea on a recent day can be realised when it is stated that passengers leaned over the bows on the voyage across to Stewart Island and gazed down into the depths of the sea at shoals of jellyfish (says the “Southland Times”). The sea was like glass and perfectly clear, and some hundreds of these strange marine creatures ranging from mere transparent tissues to the largest size, could bo seen trailing through the water in great shoals. It is seldom that such an opportunity is accorded passengers crossing Fouxcaux Strait.
