BOWLS
VICTORIANS AT EASTBOURNE WELLINGTON WIN AGAIN Yesterday was another red-letter day for the local bowling centre, which has dene all possible to make the visit of the Victorian bowlers to Wellington a memorable event. During the forenoon the party was taken for a motor drive round the heights of Wellington, including a run along Alexandra Drive, where the view of the city and harbour on the one side and Lyall Bay and Cook Strait on the other made a wonderful panorama which excited comments eulogistic of Wellington's glorious surroundings. In the afternoon the Victorians, 111 buses and private cars, were taken round the harbour to Fastbourne, where they were pitted against another series of rinks selected by the Wellington centre. The welcome accorded them at the green was characteristic. In front of the pavilion was a large banner cn which were painted a large kiwi and kangaroo shaking hands, surmounted by the Maori word of welcome, "Ilaeremai.” The pavilion balcony was handsomely decorated with bluegum sprays, flowering gums in lull blossom, ami wattle branches, as a compliment to the visitors, whilst on the afternoon tea table was displayed as a centrepiece a miniature bowling green, with a set of tiny bowls, score-board, rink number, etc., all complete, with two plaster kangaroos disporting themselves on the little The visitors were introduced by the president of the centre (Mr. Al. Marks) and were given a very hearty welcome to the borough by the Mayor (Air. H. Al. Jones), who expressed the hope that thev would have an enjoyable time and would lake away with them pleasant memories of Bastbouriie. Mr. AV. Perry (president) extended a cordial welcome to the visitors on behalf of the Bastbouriie Bowling Chib, and trusted they would all have a jolly good game. After all it did not matter who won as long as tho game was an enjoyable ons. Replying for the team. Mr. M. Lyon said they wore all enjoying every minute of their stay iu Wellington, and had much to thank the Wellington Centre for in arranging so line a programme. ’ ... At the conclusion of the game the visitors were presented with the kiwi and kankaroo banner as a memento of the game at the Eiistbpurne green. ANOTHER “FRIENDLY BOWL” Two rinks from the Oamarti Club are duo at the week-end to piny the representatives of the Eastbourne Club for the Tom Locke friendly bowl—a game instituted some four years ago by Mr. Locke, of the Eastbourne Club. Another interchib game from clubs separated by a wide stretch of water is the annual fixture between the Victoria and the SI. Allxins Chib. Christchurch. Four and possibly five rinks may make the journey south at the end of next week.
