MAGISTRATE’S COURT
POLICE AND CIVIL CASES Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Prank Key, a labourer, aged 27, who appeared for sentence on a charge of stealing a cheque valued at £5 6s. 6d., the property of Prank Stearne, was placed on twelve months’ probation. Accused was ordered to make restitution at the rate of £1 per week. Charles Frederick Smith, a labourer, aged 26,. who admitted being found by night without lawful excuse in a shed on railway property at Thorndon, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within 12' months. Accused was also ordered to stay at the Salvation Army Home, Miramar, until he secured employment. Edward William Armstrong, an agent, aged 47, who was charged with having been in charge of a motor-car while in a state of intoxication at Ngahaurangu on Thursday night last, was remanded until Tuesday next. It was stated by Sub-Inspector Lander that accused w'as still in hospital as the result of injuries received in a collision between his car and another vehicle. On the application of Mr. A. B. Sievwright, Armstrong was again allowed bail in the sum of .£3O. Michael John Moran, a labourer, aged 54, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within twelve months on a charge of being found by night without lawful excuse in an enclosed yard in Dixon Street. A charge of stealing a pair of boots valued at £1 155., the property of Samuel James Smith, which was also preferred against Moran, was dismissed.
