CIVIL ENGINEERS’ CONFERENCE
INSPECTION OF HARBOUR WORKS. The annual conference of the . New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers will open at Wellington to-day . and will probablv continue until Thursday. Many interesting and important papers will be read and discussed at the conference. To-morrow afternoon the delegates to the conference will be the guests of the Wellington Harbour Board, which has arranged a comprehensive programme covering a tour of the harbour and an inspection of the most important features of the works recently completed or in progress. . At Pipilea wharf a display will be given by the fire and salvage tug Toia. The great wharf and shed will be inspected and also the floating crane Hikitia, the concrete pile making and handling plant, and the Thorndon breastwork under construction. After steaming along tlje Thorndon sea wall and reclamation, the partv will proceed to Burnham wharf, Miramar, and subsequentlv as far ns the entrance to the harbour.
