The evening sports meetings of the Dannevirke Amateur Athletic Club are proving very popular. Results at the last gathering were as follow: —lOOvds.: F. Bray (Byds.), 1; T. Kerr (14ydsj, 2; L. Half-mile cycle: A. Griffiths (40yds.), 1; W. Grant, 2; G. Paris, 3. Threemile cycle: A. Griffiths (200yds.), 1; \V. Grant (210yds.), 2; R. Hollyman (245vd5.), 3. Two-inile walk: I. Driscoll'(4Boyds.), 1; F. Walker (480yds.), 2; F. Rossiter (500yds.), 3. Dual relay race: Miss E. Anderson and E. Law, 1; Miss R. McDowell and P. Loader, 2. Cycle versus runner: Bray (running 300yds.), 1; Griffiths (cycling 440yds.), 2. The finishes for the most part were verv close, and the novelty race between the runner and the cyclist proved very interesting, the runner winning easily.

Mr, F. W. J. Cree, of the Education Department’s physical instructional staff, has been appointed a physical instructor for the southern portion of the Hawke’s Bay Education district, and is to make Dannevirke his headquarters. A public meeting convened by the Mayor for the purpose of considering wavs of collecting funds for tlie dependants of Hood and Moncrieff was attended only by the convener, the Mayoress, Councillors L. Stein and L. W.’ Ward,,3ll(l Mr. A. McNicol, who was a trustee of the flight fund. The conclusion was come to that as the public evidently took no interest in the matter it was useless to proceed. Local subscriptions on the public list amount to only 30s.
