BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS. Mr. H. M. Jones presided when the Eastbourne Borough Council met last ni-dit. Also present were; Councillors L.° 11. Daivson, 1. Hart, S. Fisher, S. G. Shearer, E. W. Wise, and E. A. Andrew. JuCuvc ot absence was granted Councillor A. W. Press. A request for support to a remit to tho Municipal Conference asking the Main Highways Board_ to take oyer and be wholly responsible for all main highways in the Dominion was received from iho Green Island Borough Council. Boroughs of a certain population did not receive any subsidy from rho board, added Mr. Jones. However, he did not know that the matter affected Eastbourne at all. Their roads were not. any part of a main highway. Support of the remit might do no harm, however. On the motion of Councillor Dawson it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of Mr. Jones (the council’s representative at the Municipal Conference), with power to act. It was decided to proceed with the •onstruction of a culvert at Pukatea Street as soon as tho necessary timber and cement had ben purchased. It was deteremined to carry the sinal children of the Muritai School to and from the school at a charge of Id. each way, and to obtain a report from tho schoolmaster as to the number of children needing this privilege.
