f POLICE CASES Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with police cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Frederick William Davis, a salesman, aged 54, appeared for sentence on a charge of being au idle and disorderly person. Sub-Inspector Lauder stated that accused was before the Court on that charge iu November last, when he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within twelve months. At that time he had been ordered to stay at the Salvation Army Home, but he had cleared out from there the officials would not be bothered with him again. Ho now appeared for sentence on the original charge. Davies was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Frederick Taylor, alias Arthur Thompson, alias Arthur Wilson, aged 47, who appeared for sentence on a charge of being found by night without lawful excuse, but in circumstances not disclosing the intent to commit any other offence, in an enclosed garden, situated in St. Mark’s vicarage, Dufferin Street, was also sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour-. Accused had a long list of previous convictions. Thre young men, George Albert Webb, William Bramhill, and James Mcores, were remanded until February 22 on a charge of breaking and entering the house of John Tindall at Happy Valley, and stealing a camera and a telescope, valued in all at £3. For wilfully breaking a window, valued at £1 155., in an apartment house situated at 70a Tory Street, Patrick James Higins, aged 40, was convicted and ordered to make good the damage. Mr. W. E. Leicester, who represented accused, stated that Higgins had broken the window while under the influence of liquor during a struggle with a seaman named James Charles McAnlay. The latter, who is a member of the Tahiti, and who was bailed out in the sum of £5, was fined «£4 10s., and ordered to pay 10s. witnesses’ expenses on a charge of assaulting Rose McClure. Sub-InSnector T.ander stated that he understood McAulay had left for Sydney by the Tahiti on Tuesday night.
