An interesting discovery in the shape of a Maori adze was made by Mr. A. W. Burrell, of Lear Street. Stratford, in his garden the other morning (says tho Stratford "Post”). The tool, which was found near the river bank about four inches below the surface of the ground, though not made of greenstone, is composed of stone with a particularly beautiful grain. From what can bo accertained. few. if any. Maori curios have been found in (he locality before, but the discovery goes to show that Maoris were in tho habit of visiting, if not actually living, in the locality.

A gentleman from Scotland was observed attempting to rescue a small silver coin from the clutches of the “hot mix” which is being put down in a principal street (says the "Southland Times”). Tho small coin was firmly embedded, but the man, who was determiiud to succeed, even if he had to tear the whole road up, eventually captured the reluctant coin, and, smiling triumphantly, wended his way homewards to put it “under the clock.”
