PAHIATUA NOTES

Pahiatua, February 15. The following are the results of the sheep and bullock-guessing competitions held in connection with the Pahiatua Show: —Two sheep (correct weight 118 J lb.): W. Morrison, 11811 b.. 1; F. T. Rutherford, 14851 b., 2; W. Davidson, 118 lb., 3. Bullock (correct weight 7711 b.): R. W. Skinner, 7771 b., 1; W. S. Lett, 76541 b., 2; M. Galvin, 7611 b., 3. A meeting of the committee of the Pahiatua Horticultural and Industrial Society was held yesterday afternoon. Notwithstanding the scarcity of blooms, owing to the abnormally dry season, it was unanimously decided to hold the show as usual. The following iudges were appointed: Pot plants, cut flowers and decorative classes, Mr. J. D. C. Crewe; vegetables, farm produce and fruit, Mr. A. W. Hamilton; cookery and preserves. Mrs. A. East; writing, composition and spelling, Messrs. H. D, Grocott and H. M. B. Marshall; fancy work and art, Mrs. J. Hartridge and Miss Kirkpatrick; photography, Mr. J. H. Brown; boiled potato class, Mr. S. Bolton; drawing, Mr. J. Barnett. Stewards for the various sections were appointed as follow: Pot plants, cut flowers and decorative classes, Rev. G. AV. Fenwick, Mr. H. T. Simmonds, Mesdames R. C. Austin and W. T. Boyd; vegetables and farm produce, Messrs. G. H. Hodd, F. W. Groves, J. G. Chambers, and R. Gregory; fancy work, Mrs. A. Wilson. Misses C. East, M. Gregory, M. Ruskell, D. Boyd, A. Godfrey; cookery and preserves. Misses M F. Hewat, M Haliburton, Maddever, Mesdames J. T. Kotlowski, AV. EL Purdie; art and photography, Mrs. G. W. Fenwick; children’s exhibits, Mr H, D.. Grocott. Tho arrangements in connection with the tearooms 'was left in the hands of Mesdames Kotlowski and Austin. Miss Maddever, secretary of the local branch of the Women’s Institute, announced that her committee had decided to accept the offer of space at the show for an exhibition of the handicraft of the members of the institute. Tho secretary reported that quite a number of donations had recently come to hand, and a number of special prizes donated. At the conclusion of the business of the meeting the chairman commented on the enthusiasm that had Iwen evinced during the proceedings, which, ho considered, augured well for a successful show.
