/ The Minister of Lands (Hon. A- DMcLeod) and the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. J. Hawken) will leave on Friday afternoon for Te Kuiti, and on Saturday will visit Piopio, Wairba, Waitomo, and other places, receiving deputations at Te Kuiti in tile evening. On Sunday the Ministeis will leave for the Kawhia district to inspect sand dunes and meet local bodies. ’ The Ministers will proceed to I'rankton Junction on Tuesday afternoon. a ........ The Minister of Finance" (Hon. W. D. Stewart) will leave for Dunedin on Friday, returning to Welington in time to meet the Hon. H. E. Pratten, Commonwealth Minister of Customs, who will visit the Dominion shortly to discuss reciprocal tariff matters. Dr. A. W. Hill, Director of the Kew Botanic Gardens, left for Sydney by the Tahiti last night. Dr. Hill has been asked bv the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to furnish a report, with recommendations, as to economic botanical work in New Zealand. Mr. G. E. Warburton lias returned to Wellington after a two months’ tour of the North Island. Colonel" A. Spain, of the Sydney Ferries, arrived by the Marama yesterday for a holiday in the Dominion. He is accompanied by Mrs. Spain. The death occurred at Apia on Saturday of Mr. David Morrison, local manager of the Union Company, for merly of Rarotonga and New Zealand, states a Press Association message. Mrs. Churchill, wife of the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, has undergone an operation for acute mastoiditis, but is making satisfactory progress, states a British Official Wireless message. Mr. F. Meadowcroft, who has been president of the Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for some years, has forwarded his resignation to the society. Mr. G. Mitchell has been elected to the position. •Mr. J. 11. Saunders, of the Sydney "Bulletin” staff, arrived by the Marama yesterday on a holiday visit to the Dominion. He was accompanied by Mrs. Saunders. Mr. A. A. Jenkin, of Sydney, arrived with the Australian cricket team from Sydnev yesterday. He played for South Australia in the' days of George Giffen and J. -J. Lyons, and still retains a keen interest'in the game. He has frequently accompanied Australian teams to England. Mr. C. C. Dacre, the well-known Auckland and New Zealand cricketer, will leave Wellington by the s.s. Tainui for England to-day in order to qualify to play for the Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.
Mr. Willis, an Adelaide journalist, was amongst the party who arrived with the Australian cricket team vesterday.
