DROUGHT BROKEN
.. .. .... t RAIN IN THE SOUTH Dominion Special Service. ’ X Christchurch, February 14. The prolonged spell of dry weather, which has been causing considerable anxiety of late amongst farmers and pastoralists, came to an end this evening, when steady rain set in and there is every prospect of the welcome downpour continuing. A nor’-wester during the day sent the temperature up, and conditions were very trying till the wind veered round to the south-west in tire late afternoon, and threatening rain clouds appeared. The maximum temperature recorded during the day was 83.6 degrees, but there was a sudden drop once the wind changed. It was still raining steadily late to-night, and the value-of the change to the agricultural community is inestimable.
