LIFE-SAVING

LYALL BAY AVIN SANDERSON CUP. A wonderful display of life saving was seen at the annual I’aekakariki liie-sav-iug competitions when after the finest of struggles Lyall Bay "A,” winners of the prized Nelson Shield at Dunedin recently, carried off tho Sanderson Cup by a margin of two points from Maranui “A.” Another particularly fine effort was the Kennedy March Past Cup, which was won, by Maranui “A” with Lyall Bay "A” second. The winners gave an almost perfect exhibition. Interest in the events was keen about 1500 spectators being present. The proceedings were enlivened by music by the Levin Band and the ladies of Paekakariki and lady members of the Paekakariki Surf Club provided refreshments for the competitors. The judges of the competitions were Messrs. J. Duffy, W. Geary and Beveridge. Detailed results of the various events are as follow: — Sanderson Cup, run-out, 7 men—Lyall Bay “A,” 104 points, 1; Maranui “A," 102 points, 2; Island Bay, 92 1-3 points. 3. Lyall Bay “B,” Paekakariki, and Worsen Bay also competed. Kennedy March Past Cup—Maranui “A,” 92 points, 1: Lyall Bay "A,” 88 points, 2; Island Bay, 87} points, 3. Law Rose Bowl (novico run-out) — Maranui, 104 points, 1; Island Bay, 9G points, 2; Worsen Bay, 91 points, 3. Worsen Bay and Lyall Bay also competed.
