AUTOMOBILE CLUB
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE
213 NEW MEMBERS ELECTED Mr. F. AV. Manton presided at a meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club executive last mg at, others present oeuig Messrs. A. Ju. Batt, 1. V. W Usou, it W. Lawrence, J. Curtis, C. N. Aialtroy, H. W. Shortt, A. Warburton, Hr. G. Hobertson, K. b. Abraham (Palmerston), and 11. J. Stolt (secretary). It was pointed out that, although a certain number of trees had been removed al the Davis Street obstruction, the corner was still very bad. It was resolved to ask the City Council to remove all the trees pending the setting back of the coriier. A motorist called atUmtion to the Pahautauui bridge, which he described as "a veritable death-trap,” and the matter was referred to the Butt County Council for consideration. Similar action was taken regarding a ■complaint respecting a dangerous portion of the Main West. Hoad, Horokrwi, where several serious accidents had occurred. The secretary reported that very many summonses were being issued against motorists, a very large percentage of the cases being undefended, which seemed to encourage the police and local authorities to take extended action. He suggested that the club’s solicitor should personally defend all cases in Court, where there was a possible chance of a successful defence. The secretary was instructed to consult the club solicitor on the question. Another- matter reported on was the parking of tramcars at Thorndon terminus, constituting, in the opinion of the club, a serious menace to motor traffic, and a legal opinion is to be obtained on the subject. Two hundred and thirteen new members, including 81 from Palmerston North, were elected. Twentytwo members resigned.
