POLICE AND SUMMONS GABES. Mr. E. Pape. S.M., dealt with police and summons cases in the Macristrate’s Court .yesterday. 1 Fox* betrsing alms in Oriental Bay, Duncan Barclay Mercer, a labourer, aged 34. and John lleni’y Hitchens, a labourer, aged 45, were each sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour. Sydney Simo McArthur, aged 31, who admitted having behaved in an offensive manner at Island Bay. was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within two years SubInspector Lander stated that accused had been seen peeping through the cracks ot tlie ladies’ bathing shed at Island Bay recently. Ho was intoxicated at the time. The Magistrate, in convicting McArthur, told him that he would have to take out a. prohibition order and refrain from drinking for two years. “Ine offence you have pleaded guilty to is not a very creditable one,” said Ills Worship, ■‘and if you do not comply with the terms of your~ release you will be brought before the Court and punished ou this charge.” , , . Mark Ellis Gard, a youth, who admitted smoking in a non-smoking railway carriage. was fined 10s. and costs. SubInspector Lander stated that defendant was warned once by the guard to refrain from smoking, but took no notice. A. few minutes later he was caught smoking again in the same carriage, with the result that bo had been prosecuted. A. Yianakis. a cafe proprietor, was fined, £4 and costs for employing a waitress after 10.30 on a recent night.
